Over our 50 year history, Sheridan has continued to evolve and grow to meet the changing needs of Ontario's post-secondary students. Continuing with this evolution, we have a Vision for Sheridan that will build on our current diploma and degree programs with the goal of evolving into a unique undergraduate university.

Charting our Course Together: Sheridan’s New Academic Plan (2017-2022)

I’m pleased to report that Sheridan’s Senate voted on March 23 to recommend that the Board of Governors approve our new Academic Plan when they meet next on May 31, 2017. This is huge! Thank you to everyone in the Sheridan community – students, faculty and staff – who contributed to the drafting process. Our final planning milestone is approval by the Board, scheduled for May 31, 2017. And then… the hard work to realize our new academic plan begins.

Ingenuity, Creativity & Collaboration Shine at Sheridan Creates

The second annual Sheridan Creates | A Conference of Scholars, Creators and Innovators was held last month at HMC. The event welcomed over 170 professors and staff for a day-long celebration of Sheridan’s outstanding scholarly, research, and creative activities. The Conference integrated a strong pedagogical component this year through a partnership with Sheridan’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, which designated the event as the final step in the Teaching & Learning Academy (TLA).

SOURCE (Scholarly Output Undergraduate Research Creative Excellence) – An Update

SOURCE, Sheridan’s institutional repository, launched in October 2015 at the school’s inaugural Scholars and Creators Conference.  The work libraries are known for - preserving knowledge and making it accessible to the world, being champions for scholars and creators, and having a deep knowledge of scholarly communication and publishing - was key to the development of SOURCE and its ongoing operation. The development and support of scholarly tools like SOURCE is essential for individuals in our academic community to share their work and be celebrated for their broad and exciting contributions to knowledge. Charting the Course for Sheridan’s next Academic Innovation Strategy Strategy (AIS)

Approximately 70 Sheridan faculty, staff and administrators came together in MacDonald Heaslip Hall (the theatre) at Trafalgar Campus on October 25 to participate in an interactive, world café forum, designed to elicit feedback on draft recommendations that have been prepared to help create Sheridan’s next academic plan.

Known as the Academic Innovation Strategy (AIS) “Act 2”, the plan goes hand-in-hand with Sheridan’s institutional Strategic Plan. Six taskforce teams comprised of faculty, staff and administrators were assigned different areas of priority for the institution and were charged with proposing recommendations for high-level academic goals related to the themes of: creativity and innovation; internationalization; pathways; SRCA; social responsibility; and teaching & learning.

Jeff's Corner - Hazel McCallion Announced as Sheridan’s Inaugural Chancellor

I am proud to say that on February 23rd, we announced the appointment of former Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion, as our inaugural Chancellor. The announcement took place at the Davis campus, and was attended by local and regional dignitaries, including Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, and Amrit Mangat, MPP for Mississauga-Brampton South.

SRCA Growth Grants

On February 26th Sheridan awarded the first 10 Scholarship, Research and Creative Activity (SRCA) Growth Grants from a fund established by the Provost & Vice President, Academic and Institute for Creativity & Creative Campus. These peer reviewed awards expand the scope of SRCA at Sheridan and facilitate increased levels of engagement for professors to pursue their scholarly, research and creative passions. Congratulations to these well deserving recipients!

Update: The New Home of Skilled Trades at Davis

Sheridan’s mission to bring its skilled trades programs to Brampton is taking shape as the construction of their new home progresses at the Davis campus. The new A-wing building is moving steadily towards a January 2017 opening and will welcome the programs currently held at the Skilled Trades Centre (STC) in Oakville in September 2017.
